How connecting a domain to Squarespace works

This is Squarespace's DNS Connect (domain mapping): the domain stays registered elsewhere while DNS points at Squarespace. You add four apex A records, a www CNAME to ext-cust.squarespace.com, and a site-specific verification CNAME whose code is shown in your Squarespace DNS Settings.

The verification CNAME is mandatory: if it's missing or wrong, the domain unlinks from your site after 15 days. Squarespace provisions SSL automatically once DNS is correct. Some registrars allow only one A record — if so, use the first one listed.

Step by step

1. Have or buy the domain (search and register on JustDomain.ai).
2. In Squarespace, go to Settings → Domains → use a domain you own → enter the domain (starts DNS Connect).
3. Open the Squarespace DNS Settings panel and copy your unique verification CNAME code.
4. At your registrar, add all four A records, the www CNAME (ext-cust.squarespace.com), and the verification CNAME (your code → verify.squarespace.com).
5. Remove conflicting existing A records on the root.
6. Wait up to 48h. Squarespace verifies, connects the domain, and issues SSL ('Record not found' right after adding is normal).

Common gotchas

• The verification CNAME is required — miss it or enter it wrong and the domain unlinks after 15 days.
• Use the exact unique code from YOUR Squarespace panel — it's site-specific, not a fixed value.
• All four A records are recommended; only fall back to one (198.185.159.144) if your provider caps A records.
• 'Record not found' immediately after adding records is expected — allow up to 48h before troubleshooting.
